I can not begin to tell you how honored I am to have photographed the 2nd surrogate birth for this amazing family. To this day, one of my most memorable photography experiences was photographing the birth of their first born, Francesca. So, I was thrilled they wanted me to do it all over again for Jake!
Dayna, the surrogate for both children of Jon and Joey, had her water break around 11am on Friday. After having two children of her own, and one for Joey and Jon, she had never had her water break naturally before. So when it happened to her this time we had a feeling it was going to be a quick delivery! However, we were totally wrong of course! We got settled into the hospital and waited… and waited… and waited some more! Jake was being stubborn, he decided he was comfy in there and wasn’t going anywhere!
The guys weren’t scheduled to come into town until Sunday evening, but after being informed that Dayna’s water had broken, they rushed onto a plane and arrived at around 11pm to settle in and wait with us. Eventually, around 5:15, it was GO time! Dayna was pushing, and all of a sudden we see not a head, but a little baby butt! Somewhere along the line little Jake decided to turn, and was breached. Thankfully the staff at Lancaster Women and Babies is phenomenal, and safely delivered Jake. It was a very tense few minutes, but all ended the night happy and healthy! Jake was brought into the world at 5:29am on 4/8/17.
The next day after lots of sleep from all parties involved, I went back to the hospital to photograph some newborn and family photos. Francesca finally got to meet her little brother! Let’s just say she was less than enthused. She likes being the star of the show, and she wasn’t happy that a new little guy was there stealing her thunder! But over time we all know she will grow to adore him. 🙂
Cool fact: The birth of Jake was covered by People Magazine! You can check that out here: http://people.com/babies/barrys-bootcamp-cep-joey-gonzalez-husband-jonathan-rollo-welcome-son-jake-stone/
